Recent OOA Data Breach

Dear OOA Member,

We are writing to you because of an incident involving access to information within the OOA’s electronic files. Although we are unaware of any actual misuse or access to your member data, we are providing notice to you about this incident.

What happened?

We were informed on August 2, 2021, that our OOA file server was the subject of a ransomware attack. It is important to note that member financial information from your dues renewals or CME purchases was not stored on this server, and thus was not vulnerable. The OOA was able to recover access to our server, and the information therein. While we do not believe that members’ data will be vulnerable to identity theft or fraud as a result of this incident, we are providing you notice out of an abundance of transparency and caution.

What information is involved?

The data breach in question applies only to member contact information such as names, phone numbers, and email or physical address. While we do not believe that the attackers accessed this information, we cannot guarantee that they did not do so. Member financial information such as credit card numbers or transactions was not stored on this server.

What are we doing?

The OOA is increasing our information & cyber security after this incident and is committed to protecting our Member’s private information and data.
