OOA Eastern District Meeting Focuses on Legislative Updates and Patient Access Issues
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Members of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association's Eastern District gathered Aug. 31 at the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine at Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah to discuss legislative developments, healthcare policy issues and priorities impacting osteopathic physicians and patients across Oklahoma.
The meeting included recognition of Dr. Snyder for his dedication and service to the osteopathic profession. Attendees expressed appreciation for his continued leadership and contributions to the district.
Roger Thompson, CEO and Executive Director of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, provided members with a legislative update and reviewed the Association's current advocacy priorities. Director Thompson also shared information on upcoming OOA events and important dates, encouraging member involvement in Association activities throughout the year.
A key topic of discussion centered on OmniPod insulin pumps and access to diabetes management technology for Oklahoma patients. Members discussed concerns regarding the lack of Oklahoma Medicaid coverage for OmniPod systems and whether the issue presents an opportunity for future advocacy efforts. Participants emphasized the importance of ensuring patients have access to treatment options that support improved health outcomes.
The district also discussed House Bill 1687, a measure the OOA will be reviewing to better understand its potential impact on physicians and the osteopathic profession. Members were encouraged to provide feedback and share any concerns regarding the legislation.
