Value of the OOA
Value of Association membership
By Roger Thompson, Th.D., Executive Director
Osteopathic medicine is grassroots medicine, rooted in communities across Oklahoma where physicians treat the whole person mind, body and spirit. Every member of our association plays a vital role in preserving and advancing that mission.
From family physicians who provide routine care to specialists who manage complex conditions, our members deliver compassionate, patient-centered care where it is needed most: in neighborhoods, rural towns and urban clinics. That local presence strengthens public health, expands access to care and improves quality of life for Oklahoman's.
Association members contribute beyond the exam room. They mentor medical students, volunteer in community health initiatives, serve on local boards and advocate for policies that support patients and providers. Those efforts multiply the impact of individual physicians and embed osteopathic principles into the fabric of our communities.
Our profession’s emphasis on preventive care, whole-person treatment and the osteopathic manipulative approach complements modern medicine and delivers measurable benefits to patients. When physicians practice with compassion and respect for patients’ values and circumstances, outcomes and satisfaction improve.
Membership in our association is more than a credential; it is a commitment to service. Every member’s participation whether clinical, educational, administrative or volunteer adds value to the health and well-being of Oklahoma residents.
Together we are stronger. Together we uphold the distinct principles of osteopathic medicine and expand its reach. We are DO proud.
