2025 Interim Studies

 

Senate members requested 73 interim studies for consideration. All approved Senate studies must be completed by October 31.

 

House members have requested 154 interim studies. All approved House studies must be completed by November 6.

Special Elections for House District 35

The Special Elections for Rep. Ty Burns' HD 35 seat have been set by the Governor. The filing period for candidates will be Oct 6-8, 2025. The election dates are:

  • Jan. 13: Special Runoff Primary Election, if necessary.
  • Feb. 10: Special General Election

 

Six candidates have entered the race to fill the seat left vacant by former Rep. Ty Burns, R-Pawnee.

Republican Candidates

  • Amber Roberts, R-Hominy, previously ran for Senate District 10 in 2018. She advanced to the GOP runoff, where she lost to incumbent Sen. Bill Coleman, R-Ponca City. Roberts is married to former State Rep. Sean Roberts, who served for 12 years in HD 36.
  • Dillion Travis, R-Maramec, owns and operates Southern Plains AG-CO, an agricultural business that serves farmers across four states, and runs a large cattle and hay operation in Maramec.
  • Mike Waters, R-Pawnee, previously served as the Pawnee County sheriff and worked in law enforcement for 25 years.
  • James Winn, R-Mannford, currently is a farmer and rancher near Mannford. He was previously employed in the oil and gas industry working on oil rigs and pipelines. Winn previously sought the GOP nomination for Senate District 21 last year, finishing last in a three-way GOP primary ultimately won by Sen. Randy Grellner (R-Cushing).
  • Kevin Wright, R-Jennings, has served as the mayor of Jennings as well as being a small business owner and a leader at his church.

 

Democrat Candidate

  • Luke Kruse, D-Glencoe, is the lone Democrat to file for his party’s nomination. He has served as a tenured professor at Northern Oklahoma College for nearly two decades, where he teaches political science and history. He also serves as a volunteer football coach. His website is listed as being under construction.

please see below the 154 total House interim studies requested by representatives. House Speaker Kyle Hilbert will approve and maybe consolidate House members’ studies by July 25th. 

Also, below are the 73 Senate Interim Study proposals filed and approved by Senator Lonnie Paxton. Senate President Pro Tempore Lonnie Paxton has assigned each interim study to the relevant Senate committee and hearings will be scheduled at the discretion of each committee chair. All approved senate studies must be completed by October 31. These studies allow lawmakers to take a deeper dive into important issues facing the state ahead of the 2026 legislative session.
